Moodle Packages

Moodle is Free, Open Source software (read our GPL licence).

Choose from the following official Moodle packages to install Moodle on your own server. Other ways to get Moodle include downloading Moodle via CVS and via a third-party integrated distribution such as Debian or Cpanel.

Latest Stable Build	Moodle 1.9+ MOODLE_19_WEEKLY	Built Weekly	BEST CHOICE FOR A NEW SERVER! The 1.9 stable branch is continually being improved with new bug fixes since the last release (but not new features). Just before this package is created each week, we conduct a weekly code review of each new fix to help us find any new problems they may have caused (regressions). Latest Official Release	Moodle 1.9 MOODLE_19	3rd March 2008	Our latest major release. This release is only a "gold reference version" for those who want a known version (with known bugs!). The weekly release above is DEFINITELY better for a new server. The Moodle 1.9 series not only has lots of requested new features but some very large performance improvements over Moodle 1.8. We recommend all sites upgrade to 1.9 as soon as practical, especially if you are seeing poor performance in some areas. Previous 1.8 Stable Build	Moodle 1.8.5+ MOODLE_18_WEEKLY	Built Weekly	The 1.8 stable branch is continually being patched with new bug fixes since the last release, without adding any new features that might have new bugs. This version is useful if you want to upgrade an older 1.8 version and do not want all the extra performance and improvements in 1.9. :-) Here is the list of all bugs fixed since 1.8 release (with detailed changes in the CHANGES file). Legacy 1.7 Release	Moodle 1.7.4 MOODLE_174	11th January 2008	This release contains a large amount of fixes made to Moodle 1.7. The Moodle 1.7 series contains a number of improvements that make Moodle more flexible and stable. In particular there is a radically new permissions system called Roles. Legacy 1.6 Stable Build	Moodle 1.6.6+ MOODLE_16_WEEKLY	Built Weekly	The 1.6 stable branch is not being patched much any more, but any fixes that ARE made will appear in this weekly build.
